ABOUT SHANNON JONES

Shannon Jones, AMFT - Therapy in Los Angeles

Shannon Jones

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #140827

Professional Background:

I received my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Gender and Sexuality Studies from Tulane University. Outside of having extensive psychotherapy experience providing holistic trauma-informed care to many individuals, couples and families, I am a professor and artist.

Passion for Healing:

As a highly sensitive teenager who struggled with anxiety and depression, finding both therapy and art made a profound impact on how I saw, operated, and engaged with the world. Since then, my passion for spreading and sharing growth and healing has only increased. In all of my work, I strive to bring kindness, creativity, curiosity, and cultural humility.

Specialized Expertise:

Though I have extensive experience working with teens and young adults around areas of identity and transition, I find fulfillment in serving a wide range of clients from varied age groups and backgrounds. As an expressive art therapist, I often integrate creative modalities into my work whether it be traditional art-making or somatic work. I take a holistic and integrative approach, incorporating psychodynamic, relational, narrative and humanistic modalities.

Philosophy of Care:

Therapeutically, I work from a place of deep compassion, groundedness, humor and connection, aiming to tailor my approach to the unique and sacred individuality of each client. My goal is always to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel genuinely seen, valued, and empowered. While therapy may often be serious, I believe it’s important to leave space for candor and levity for all of life’s gray areas.

Client-Centric Focus:

My goal is always to create a space where you can be you. To me, a client-centered approach is rooted in the belief that my clients are the experts in their own lives. I am here to walk alongside you, but you will lead the way! I truly cherish our time together and believe it is an immense honor and privilege to accompany you on this journey.

Personal Connection:

My interests outside of being a therapist are very aligned with why I do what I do. Whether spending all day getting lost in a museum, cooking an elaborate meal while blasting R&B, or going on a mindful hike to reconnect with myself, I strive to find balance, depth, and delight in life’s offerings. I am a seeker and a lifelong learner. Also, I love a nap!

Vision for Mental Wellness:

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin’s words resonate with me deeply because though working on oneself can be painful and strenuous, my work as a therapist has repeatedly proven to me just how transformative taking this risk can be. May we all blossom!
